The Abbotsford School District's new elementary school is currently under construction on Eagle Mountain, and is scheduled to open in September 2022!
As we prepare the opening, we're seeking community and stakeholder feedback on the neighbourhood boundaries that determine the school catchment area.
Project History
Since 2018, district staff have undertaken detailed boundary reviews in preparation for the new school. In establishing a specific school catchment area, the intention is to ensure that, in the longer term, school enrolments can be accommodated within the established school capacity. The process includes analysis of demographic trends, enrolment patterns, enrolment projections and impact of current and future development.
Boundary Review
The new school on Eagle Mountain is located in the Mountain Elementary catchment where significant development has been underway for several years and will continue into the longer term including areas at the top of Eagle Mountain, the new Florence Drive, the new section of Marshall Road and future phases of the Timberlane development. The new, large capacity school will position the district to accommodate current enrolment pressures and future growth in the Mountain catchment. The boundary review also considered enrolment pressures at neighbouring schools and Option 1 proposes including a small portion of the McMillan catchment with the new school catchment.
We are looking for your feedback on two proposed boundary options:
Option 1 - View Map - Northern and southwestern parts of the existing Mountain Elementary catchment plus a small portion of Cameron Crescent from the McMillan catchment.
Option 2 - View Map - Northern and southwestern parts of the existing Mountain Elementary catchment ONLY.
Both options would be part of the W.A. Fraser Middle and Yale Secondary family of schools.
