Eagle Mountain Boundary Review

Consultation has concluded.

The Abbotsford School District's new elementary school is currently under construction on Eagle Mountain, and is scheduled to open in September 2022!

As we prepare the opening, we're seeking community and stakeholder feedback on the neighbourhood boundaries that determine the school catchment area.

Project History

Since 2018, district staff have undertaken detailed boundary reviews in preparation for the new school. In establishing a specific school catchment area, the intention is to ensure that, in the longer term, school enrolments can be accommodated within the established school capacity. The process includes analysis of demographic trends, enrolment patterns, enrolment projections and impact of current and future development.

Boundary Review

The new school on Eagle Mountain is located in the Mountain Elementary catchment where significant development has been underway for several years and will continue into the longer term including areas at the top of Eagle Mountain, the new Florence Drive, the new section of Marshall Road and future phases of the Timberlane development. The new, large capacity school will position the district to accommodate current enrolment pressures and future growth in the Mountain catchment. The boundary review also considered enrolment pressures at neighbouring schools and Option 1 proposes including a small portion of the McMillan catchment with the new school catchment.

We are looking for your feedback on two proposed boundary options:

  • Option 1 - View Map - Northern and southwestern parts of the existing Mountain Elementary catchment plus a small portion of Cameron Crescent from the McMillan catchment.
  • Option 2 - View Map - Northern and southwestern parts of the existing Mountain Elementary catchment ONLY.

Both options would be part of the W.A. Fraser Middle and Yale Secondary family of schools.

Tell us what you think of the proposed catchment options for the new elementary school on Eagle Mountain.

  • We live on this section of Cameron cres and are affected by this change. The majority of the families here also have older siblings in elementary. If they are grandfathered in to stay at McMillan it will probably only be my family that has to move to eagle mountain.. which then seems odd to move the boundaries on half of one street for 2 kids. We very much would like to stay in McMillan catchment.

  • Are these the final two options for the new school? It will be one of these two?

  • My wife and I live in the affected portion of Cameron Cres that is being proposed to be moved into the Eagle Mtn school catchment. We are adamantly opposed to this and specifically chose our house due to the McMillan catchment. I'm just curious why there is a blanket survey on this for anyone to vote on when this decision only affects a few houses on Cameron Cres with elementary age children. Would it not be more appropriate to just ask those families specifically to see what their opinions are. Or are these opinions not important in your decision.

  • Why would a small portion of a street be included? To include Cameron Cres. Seems arbitrary and unfair.

  • What will the outdoor space at the new school look like and be utilized? Concerned about the lack of space due to park.
